Now that we’ve been in business for more than 20 years, we figured it was finally time we had a mission statement! It’s not that we haven’t considered writing one in the past or that we haven’t had any sort of mission in mind the whole time we’ve been in business. It’s more that we weren’t sure how to condense everything we are trying to do as a company into a single statement. It seemed like a daunting task.
So why now? Why did we take the time to craft a statement in the midst of our busy schedules? Well, our Long Beach architecture firm is growing (again), and we know that having a clearly defined mission statement will help guide that growth.
As we consider expanding our services, we only want to do so if those services align with our mission. In those instances, we will use our mission statement as a filter through which we will run all new ideas. We will honestly ask ourselves, “Does this service fall in line with our mission?” In addition, when we bring on new employees—especially employees who have worked at other architecture firms in the past—we want them to have a clear understanding of what we stand for on day one. We don’t want them to make assumptions about what type of architecture firm we are. Rather, we want them to know what’s important to us and how we expect them to engage with our clients and industry partners on a daily basis.
Our mission statement is also for our potential clients. We want them to know what type of experience they will have when they hire us as their architecture firm. But you’ll notice there are some expectations for our clients as well. We are looking for clients who value quality—not just those who want the cheapest architect in Long Beach. We’re also looking for clients who want to collaborate with us on the design of their space.
So, without further ado, here is the new mission statement for Grisafe Architecture:

We place importance on client collaboration and communication, ensuring clients have an exceptional experience.
We help shape the community in positive ways by designing spaces that enhance our surroundings.
We operate with integrity, holding ourselves to a code of professional standards and ethics both internally and in the ways that we work with clients and governing bodies.
While we realize that this mission statement isn’t the most concise mission statement ever written, it does say everything we want it to say, without being too wordy!
