Interior design trends are always changing. Our Long Beach architecture firm works hard to stay on top of the latest trends in home interiors, and we work with several very talented interior designers to make sure our clients get the exact look and feel they are hoping for in their home remodel.
We understand that every client has different taste and different ideas about how they want their home to look and function, but here are three interior design trends that many of our clients have been embracing recently:
Light, Bright, and Airy
While there are many homeowners who still prefer the rich look of elements like darkly stained woods, heavy draperies, and oversized furniture, the trend right now for the main living spaces in the home tends to be light, bright, and airy. If you want your home to feel spacious, even if it’s not, it can be accomplished using several different design techniques, such as ensuring the room has good natural light, high ceilings, light-colored walls, and the appropriate amount and size of furniture.
In this project, we weren’t working with a huge space for the living room, but the space still feels spacious due to the white walls, multiple windows, and glass patio doors. We also added plenty of artificial light to make sure the room would always have a brightness to it, and kept the fireplace and major furniture pieces white. Rather than choosing a wood coffee table, we went with a clear one to help give the space a more open feeling.
Custom Details
If you want to make your house feel like a home, and give it a more “special” feel, you want to make sure your Long Beach architect pays attention to the little details. Something as simple as the trim you use throughout your home can make the difference between a home remodel that is just average and one that is truly special.
In this kitchen, we included a lot of details that you won’t find in most tract homes. We included crown molding on top of the cabinets, so they go all the way to the ceiling. We added a unique detail to the island and had it painted a different color than the rest of the cabinets, which is very trendy right now, but also very easy to change, should that look go out of style. The sculptural pendant lights over the island are also a great detail that give the space some character.
Indoor/Outdoor Spaces
When you live in an area with great weather pretty much year-round like Long Beach, it’s important to take advantage of it. One way you can do this in your home is to have an indoor living space that extends seamlessly to your outdoor space.
In this home, we had folding patio doors installed to create a wide opening from the living room to the back patio. The patio itself has welcoming furnishings and plenty of shade for hot summer days. It even has its own television—which essentially gives the homeowners another living space without having to add square footage to their house.
Many people think of architects as people who design floor plans, but at M. Grisafe Architect, we do so much more than that. We help you turn your house into the dream home you’ve always wanted. Whether you want to incorporate some of the design ideas listed above, or have a completely different vision for your home, we can help.
