Have you ever met a really creative person—like a really creative person? Someone who is always full of ideas, most of which seem pretty far out there, but kind of impressively so. Their brain seems to work in ways that are just different from most people’s. They probably dress in a quirky fashion, decorate their home eclectically, and maybe even engage in some unorthodox hobbies.
Creative people like this can be fun to be around. They often bring a certain energy with them that can be contagious. But there’s one thing that a lot of really creative people have in common—they can struggle to get things done. And if they do manage to get something done, it’s rarely within a stated timeline or budget.
When it comes to the field of architecture, creativity is definitely an asset. However, that creativity absolutely needs to be grounded in reality. We could bring a ton of innovative and creative ideas to your project, but if none of them are doable because of the building code or your budget, they aren’t really worth much. They could even cause frustration or heartache once it is discovered that the creative ideas will never be able to come to fruition.
Here at Grisafe Architecture, we like to think we offer our clients a healthy balance of creativity and practicality. We love coming up with creative ways to solve complex problems or doing something a little different than the norm. We love brainstorming and dreaming with our clients about what their ideal space looks like. However, we always keep in mind the practical side of architecture, including things like building permits, budgets, HOAs, and energy efficiency. We also take into consideration things like the functionality of the space—how it will be used on a daily basis and how we can allocate square footage in the most effective way possible.
Our approach to architectural design makes us a great fit for clients who value creativity and who are open to innovative ideas, but who also want to see their project move forward in a timely manner. Our plans typically get approved with either no revisions needed, or only minor revisions required. This is because we do our homework when it comes to applicable building codes, and we also submit very complete and detailed sets of plans.
