We were asked to redesign an existing retail building in Downtown Downey to transform it into a restaurant with a second-story open-air deck. This project involved creating a design that both met the client’s needs and satisfied the city planning commission’s tough standards. We used advanced rendering techniques to create realistic views of what the building will look like once complete.
Our design features materials and finishes that blend in with the appeal of the existing downtown architecture, while maintaining its own unique character by the use of modern design elements. Materials include brick veneer from Pacific Clay, Trespa panels with a wood-like finish, and metal panels. The standing seam curved metal roof contrasts with the angles of the rest of the building to soften the design. We provided large windows and roll-up doors that connect the indoor to the outdoor dining spaces. The large, open roof deck featuring a bar and glass guardrails further connect the space to the outdoors.
