One of the more rewarding aspects of commercial design is learning what makes our clients so passionate about their business and then helping them realize their dreams by guiding them through the design process. This was the case for a growing swim school in the City of Long Beach.
Deep Blue Swim School’s mission is to limit the number of childhood drownings through water safety instruction. Their first location was becoming overbooked with kids, so they needed to expand to a second location. In order to be able to teach swim lessons year-round, an indoor pool was needed. Since there wasn’t one available, we turned a recently completed commercial building shell into a fully functioning indoor swim school.
We partitioned the building into two main sections: the pool side and the commercial/business side. The pool side housed the indoor pool, complete with a restroom, shower, changing rooms, and a sophisticated pool filtration system. The remainder of the building featured a reception area, retail space, office, break room, and an additional restroom. Separating the two spaces is a tall partition wall with a glass top portion, which runs the length of the pool for viewing.
